Celebrate World Planting Day With Us

World Planting Day - Let's Grow Together

Celebrate World Planting Day with us on the 21st of March and plant something new. Now that spring has officially sprung, we can start to think about getting our garden to bloom.

What is World Planting Day? World Planting Day is a holiday dedicated to celebrating the wonders of planting, raising awareness, and encouraging people to plant something new. There are no strict rules or checklists for the day, but we have put together a little list of suggestions of ways you could put the day to good use.

Make a plan If you haven't done so already, make a plan for your garden beds and borders. When it comes to annual bedding, it's good to plant out before you buy so you can shop well informed. Think about colour schemes and spacing, but most importantly - have fun and make something beautiful!

Plant from scratch Try growing something new or encourage younger generations to explore the world of planting. Seed packets are inexpensive and can provide you with multiple blooms or harvests. Vegetable seeds are wonderful for providing young children with insight into the world of food production, not to mention you can encourage healthy eating. Whether you have an entire greenhouse or just a spare shelf in the kitchen, you can start off some vegetable seeds now ready for planting out in the warmer months. If you are short on space, you could try some windowsill herbs or balcony pots of tomatoes. You will be enjoying delicious produce before you know it!

Keep it contained Not all gardens are blessed with large flower beds, but plant pots can be your patio's best friend. Planting into decorative pots not only looks beautiful but gives the added benefit of versatility. You can switch around your potted plants whenever you fancy, changing the look of the space whilst being able to tailor conditions to suit their needs.Person crouched down transplanting a purple flowered plant into a white rattan plant pot on decking surrounded by more pot plants

Help out your houseplants Garden or no garden, don't forget your indoor plants. Aside from day-to-day maintenance, houseplants often need replanting and topping up with nutritious compost. Give your leafy friends a look over and see if you can make any adjustments to help them flourish. You may even have some plants that need trimming down or propagating. Perhaps you could replant all your baby spider plants and share them with friends and neighbours? What better way to celebrate World Planting Day than to give the gift of a new plant?

Grow something useful There are plenty of gorgeous garden plants out there that come with additional benefits. For example, lavender plants are not just attractive to look at, but they provide excellent nutrition for pollinators. They also produce a wonderful scent, and their flowers can be dried out and used for fragrance. Keeping lavender in the bedroom can fill the air with relaxing notes and aid a calming sleep. Consider the needs of your garden, or even your cooking! If you find yourself regularly spending money on freshly cut herbs or salads, have a go at growing them yourself. A tree-mendous idea If you have a suitable spot in your garden, or a generously sized plant pot, why not consider planting a tree? It is no secret that trees are vital for our ecosystem, making them an environmentally responsible addition to any outdoor space. Treat your home to some fruit trees so you can look forward to future autumnal harvests or grow something beautiful to admire for years to come. Additional trees will provide your garden with shade, and beauty and also help local wildlife.Grandad and grandson planting a small leafy tree into a patch of grassland
