A visit to your local Cherry Lane Garden Centre to select your Christmas tree is a magical experience for the whole family. There is something so festive about wrapping yourselves up in woolly hats and scarves to brave the elements to pick the perfect Christmas tree for your home. Choosing the type, the width and the height of your tree and inhaling the fresh and elevating aroma from the pine needles adds to the excitement.
So here are some great tips on how to care for your Christmas tree.
- As soon as you get home, remove your tree from the netting to prevent mould from growing on the damp branches.
- Before taking your tree into your home, give it a gentle shake to remove any loose needles.
- Get an adult to saw a couple of inches from the bottom of the trunk before standing in water. (Did you know freshly cut Christmas trees can consume a gallon of water in just 24 hours?)
- Fill the tree stand with water and top up regularly. Do not allow the stand to dry out.
- Position your tree in the coolest place possible to prevent drying out and needle loss.
- The key to maintaining a healthy tree right up to the big day is WATER, WATER, WATER!
